How much will I save by installing a new furnace?
The average 20- to 30-year-old furnace is only 55 to 62% efficient depending on your use. New high-efficiency furnaces are from 80% to 96% efficient. That means you save 18% to 41%, depending on your use.
What is SEER?
The seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) is to cooling what BTU (British thermal unit) is to heating. The higher the rating, the more efficiently the unit will cool your home, saving you money.
What is AFUE?
This is the annual fuel utilization efficiency of gas furnaces. Like SEER, the higher the number, the less energy is required to heat your home.
What are BTU and therm?
A BTU is the amount energy required to raise the temperature of 1 pound of water 1 degree Fahrenheit. A therm is 100,000 BTU. Residential gas is priced at $/therm. Just like more efficient cars get more miles per gallon, more efficient furnaces and cooling units save more gas and electricity.
Will my new equipment be quiet?
Absolutely. We install the quietest equipment available. However, there are variations in decibel levels among manufacturers and if noise levels are a primary concern, units with variable-speed motors should be considered.
Are outdoor air conditioners safe for children?
Yes. New Lennox and Carrier units have blade guards to keep children safe while protecting the air-conditioning unit.
What is an SSU switch?
An added protection in case of a power surge to protect the furnace and electrical circuit board. It's is an electrical disconnect that looks like a light switch located at the furnace.
How can I tell if my house has adequate return air?
A lot of homes are short on return air (air passed through a heating or cooling unit and returned to the interior space). Our sales staff will be happy to inspect your home and make an evaluation.
Will better indoor air quality control help my allergies?
Yes. There are many products to improve indoor air quality from electronic air cleaners to whole-house HEPA filtration systems; that work to exhaust stale air, reduce pollutants, and deactivate microorganisms in the air. Removing pollen, dust, mold, spoor, microorganisms, and animal dander can make life much easier for family members with asthma and allergies.
Will I have to pour concrete to install my new cooling unit?
No. We install a pre-cast slab that is better than concrete. It has a lifetime warranty, and it won't crack, chip, or peel.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. We offer no-down-payment, no interest, 0% APR financing.
Do you use subcontractors?
All of our furnace and air conditioning projects are staffed by dedicated, certified technicians who are employees of Cooper Cooling and Heating. When electrical wiring must be altered, we call in licensed electrical contractors to prepare the site for the installation.
What is a heat calc and do I need one?
Heat calc is a mathematical calculation of heat loss and gain within your home. This measurement is not necessary for a retrofit, but we do calculate heat loss and gain for new construction.
Why should I pay for design when I can just buy the biggest air conditioner?
Bigger is not always better - or the best buy. Duct design capacity is much more important for efficient cooling. Insufficient air to the ducts can cause icing of the coil line and condenser, so a bigger air conditioner with inadequate duct design capacity will not be as efficient as a smaller one with better design capacity.
My furnace is not working. What should I do?
Check whether the thermostat is set to heat or cool. Check whether the fan is on auto. Check the SSU switch (an on/off switch on the furnace that looks like a light switch). Make sure door on furnace is closed. Check Check the fuse (contact us if you don't feel comfortable doing this). If none of these things corrects the problem, call us at 303 466 4209.
My air conditioner is not working. What should I do?
If you recently changed the filter, it may take a couple of days for the system to thaw and reset. If ice is present, run the fan only (on). Check that the registers are open (if closed they will restrict air flow). If these steps do not resolve the problem, call us at 303 466 4209. You may be low on refrigerant or have another problem that requires a technician.
